THE BEGINNING OF THE END?

October 7th 2007

Now that Setanta have their foot in the door in England where will that leave their coverage of the SPL when the current deal runs out?

I've no idea but if you cast your mind back to the pre-season, a couple of times Celtic games were lined up to be shown on Setanta but never were, the game against QPR was one that springs to mind.

They were falling over themselves to show games involving Newcastle instead.

Today Arsenal take on Sunderland and the match is being shown live on Setanta at 12.00 but the build up to the big game begins an hour before kick-off at 11.00am.

Setanta's SPL Sunday games usually kick off at 2.00pm but today it's 3.00pm due to the English match being shown beforehand.

I remember the days when their SPL match build up began an hour before kick-off (eh, last week in fact) but today we are only getting a Scottish football Sky Sports-esque 30 minutes.

It's not as if the kick-off couldn't have been 3.30pm to give a pre-match TV hour.

This season it's the SPL, EPL and Blue Square Premier but who would bet against it being the EPL and Coca Cola Championship a few years down the line at at the expense of you know who?
