UNLIKELY BUT CELTS COULD QUALIFY TONIGHT

November 28th 2007

Although it's a huge task a 3-0 win for Celtic tonight at home to Shakhtar Donetsk could put the Bhoys into the Champions League last sixteen.

That result plus anything other than a win for Benfica against Milan would see the Celts through.

Celtic and Shakhtar are tied on six points but the Ukrainian side hold the head-to-head advantage courtesy of their 2-0 home win against the Bhoys earlier in the campaign.

There are many permutations as to what could happen but three points is the first priority and a win of any score would at least keep it going until the last game.

Some of the possibilities are: A 3-0 win for Celtic and a win or draw for Milan and both qualify.

A 2-0 win for the Celts and a Milan win or draw would leave Shakhtar level on the head-to-head but with a minus five goal difference and three points behind Celtic who would have a plus one goal difference.

A draw tonight coupled with a Milan win or draw and Celtic must better Shakhtar's points tally in next week's games.

A one goal win for the Bhoys and a defeat for Milan would mean Celtic and Milan could both go through with a draw next week.

A defeat tonight and a win for Benfica is the worst case scenario, that would leave Celtic needing a win in the San Siro.

Come oan Celtic!!!
