HEARTS FANS WERE ASHAMED OF THEIR OWN

December 3rd 2007

I was speaking to a group of Hearts fans on Saturday night, they had been at the Celtic game at Tynecastle earlier in the day and were telling me how they were disgusted and ashamed when many of the Jambos started singing "Steven Pressley you're a w*nk*r".

I said that I had heard it on TV loud and clear and couldn't understand why they did it after all Pressley had done for Hearts and it's not as if he walked out on them, he was forced out along with Hartley for standing up for the players.

One of the lads I was talking to was absolutely raging at the treatment Pressley got and revealed he was involved in an altercation with a fellow Jambo over it.

Pressley was targeted throughout the match and I can't for the life of me understand why.

I don't know if all former Hearts players receive that degree of hatred when they return to Tynecastle but I certainly don't recall Mike Galloway getting it nor Willie Wallace so why Pressley?

Kenny Dalglish was roundly booed when he retuned to Celtic Park with Liverpool but that was it and he hadn't exactly been forced to leave the club, quite the opposite in fact.

Mo Johnston got it in the neck but then he had just shat on the Celtic fans from a great height so it was understandable even if these days it would be considered out of order.

Jackie McNamara doesn't get it from the Celtic fans and neither does David Fernandez nor Jamie Smith and Kenny Miller didn't even get it from the Rangers fans.

It's usually highlighted if a Celtic or Rangers loony at a game comes out with something offensive but fans of other clubs many even in the lower leagues seem to think they are beyond being pulled up for offensive chants.
