CELTIC IN CRISIS BANNERS
AT THE READY
December 9th 2007 That's three games without a win so no doubt the Daily Record will have the + CELTIC IN CRISIS + CELTIC IN CRISIS + banner headlines ready for the tops of their sports pages. I remember two seasons back Celtic lost at home to Dunfermline by a single goal and I thought we were about to get the same yesterday against St Mirren. We were rescued ironically by Derek Riordan who may only have about three weeks left of his Celtic career but the game should really have been wrapped up long before that. I don't know what the problem with Strachan and Riordan is but I certainly wish there wasn't one as I'd love to see him play more often. When Strachan arrived at Celtic he left Aiden McGeady out the team for about three months, possibly to make him realise that he hadn't 'made it' just because he was in the first team squad. After a short while McGeady was making noises about having to leave if he wasn't getting a game but he worked hard and got back into the team and this season he is the one we are all looking to when we need a match winner. Could it be that Riordan's reaction to being left out the team for so long when he first arrived wasn't exactly what Strachan had been hoping for? The manager has a habit of leaving players out after reported unrest - Thompson, Aliadiere, Sutton, Agathe, Jarosik, Gravesen, Balde, and Riordan have all been left out after reports of disagreements. It has worked wonders for Jarosik because he is definitely a better player for us now than he was last season but Riordan hasn't really been given a chance to show that it has worked for him too. Maybe Strachan thinks he doesn't deserve that chance because of what he sees in training but it's disappointing whatever the reasons. St Mirren fans must be wondering why their team is in the position they are when they can get a draw at Celtic Park. The answer is that the players obviously don't put the same effort in when they are playing against Falkirk, Aberdeen and Hearts. Falkirk are the visitors to Celtic Park on Tuesday night and it's a game the Bhoys must win as Rangers are currently only a couple of points behind with a game in hand.
