GAME OFF BUT WAS IT ALL A BIG CON?

March 15th 2008

I reported on MONDAY 10th March that today's game at Motherwell was in doubt due to the state of the pitch yet there was no mention of any doubts over this game going ahead in the press, on the Celtic website or the Motherwell website.

In fact it was reported on the Celtic website yesterday that Motherwell FC were confident of the match going ahead but had arranged a precautionary pitch inspection for 9am today.

A friend of mine who lives in Motherwell and who has regularly attended matches at Fir Park all his life told me on Monday evening that the chances of this game going ahead today were "very slim".

Why then has there been no concerns expressed this week?  The reason I suspect is that this game is not sold out, tickets are still available so if there had been reports that this game was in doubt then who would want to buy a ticket for it?

Better to just keep people believing that there is no doubt over the game at all, get as many tickets as possible sold (it must be getting close to a sell-out by now after tickets being on sale three times) then announce a pitch inspection after the ticket office is closed.
