TIME WASTING TACTICS BACKFIRE ON RANGERS

April 17th 2008

Celtic's title hopes are still alive after an injury time goal by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink gave Celtic a 2-1 victory over Rangers.

Shunsuke Nakamura had put Celtic ahead with a wonder strike in the first half before Nacho Nicho the Karate Kid levelled early in the second half with the vistors' only shot of the game.

Celtic were stunned by the goal for a short spell but came back into the game and a netlbound effort from Nakamura was handled by defender Carlos Cuellar who was shown the red card after Celtic had been awarded the penalty.

Scott McDonald took the kick but it was saved by Rangers 'keeper McGregor who's time wasting tactics backfired on his team big style when big Jan headed the winner in the time the referee added on at the end.

Having attended these games for well over forty years and been part of attendances of over 130,000, I know what it's like to sample the Old Firm atmosphere.

With the introduction of early kick-offs the atmosphere is not a patch on what it used to be so it was a pleasure to sample the atmosphere of an evening Old Firm game once again.

The odds are still stacked against the Bhoys but then that's been the way throughout their history, all they can do is win each game as it comes then see what happens.
