IF SCOTT BOOTH SAYS SO IT MUST BE TRUE

April 28th 2008

Celtic 3 Rangers 2

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who have watched a game on TV, seen all the replays etc and still only see what the commentator has seen and taken it as gospel.

Not that it matters now as we have won the game but with fourteen minutes on the clock Celtic had a corner which was fired in to Gary Caldwell and although he managed to get his head to it he was hauled to the ground by Whittaker who had both hands on the Celtic player's arm.

I was convinced at the time that it was a penalty and after seeing the replays last night I saw nothing to change my mind.

Most people who had watched it on TV were saying last night it wasn't a penalty and that Caldwell had thought Cousin had handled it - obviously because that's what they had been told by Scott Booth.

When Caldwell ran to the referee he was telling him that Whittaker had pulled him back by the arm, he wasn't claiming a handball at all and I could not believe that the linesman did not see the incident as the two players were the ones closest to him.

A penalty at that point could have put Celtic 2-0 up and comfortable but Rangers levelled exactly two minutes later.

Walter Smith later said that Whittaker was sent off for two innocuous challenges, well justice was done because he certainly got away with that one.

Yes, Skippy was offside at the first goal but hey, we can now put a line through that Jorge Cadette goal.

Rangers have now tried their full repertoire of styles on Celtic in the last two games without success and the Bhoys are back in the title race although it's still a long shot.

The bottom line is Celtic have given themselves a chance.
