ENGLISH BBC IGNORES THE FACTS

May 14th 2008

I am getting a touch fed up with the English BBC going on about how the SPL has refused to extend the season to help Rangers' bid for UEFA Cup glory.

Apart from those at BBC England we all know that is not the case and that the season has already been extended for the benefit of Rangers at great inconvenience to thousands of fans who had booked flights, ferries and accommodation for the original date of the final game.

If a team reaches three cup finals and is still in the title race they can expect to play a lot more games than anyone else and they just have to deal with that, it comes with success.

As it turns out, the fact that Rangers still have three SPL matches to play has worked in their favour because none of their three opponents has anything left to play for now and Aberdeen even have players going away on international duty and won't be available for the final game.

Motherwell and St Mirren will both throw youngsters on to give them a run out in their final games so the chances of either of them taking anything off Rangers is round about nil.

The bottom line is of course that Celtic have only themselves (and Mike McCurry) to blame for the position they are in and all they can do now is win their final game then see what happens.

Rangers have the chance of lifting four trophies in all but if it all went horribly wrong and they ended up with only the CIS Cup would that be a success or a failure for Walter Smith and would he keep his job?

I can't see that happening anyway as they will surely take care of Queen of The South in the Scottish Cup Final and in tonight's UEFA Cup Final they face a team who are currently only one point from being bottom of their league.

As they say, it's sometimes better to be lucky than good and the Gers have certainly had their share of luck this season.
