GOALIE IN GAWLIE IS NO
BIG SPENDER
June 16th 2008 I was in Asda at Galashiels (or Gawlie as it's known locally) this evening and bumped into Sunderland and Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon who was in there getting a bit of shopping. What's he doing shopping at Asda I'm thinking when there is a Marks and Sparks 50 yards away still open - or are the wages at Sunderland not all that great? A quick squint in his trolley revealed no sign of any 'Smart Price' products though so he's obviously not that hard up. He has no knowledge of any move by Sunderland to take Aiden McGeady to the Premiership apart from what he's read in the papers. I doubt very much that McGeady would want to go to Sunderland but then Alan Hutton didn't want to leave Rangers and still ended up at Tottenham. If Sunderland were to offer an amount that Celtic could not refuse and a wage that McGeady would find difficult to turn down then he may well end up there. Celtic would find themselves in a bit of a predicament if Sunderland were to eventually make a final offer of say £12 million. Should they accept it or hold on to the player for another year or two? Who knows what may happen, he may want to stay at Celtic but see out his contract and leave for nothing, there's also always the risk of an injury. I would think that if Sunderland are prepared to offer in excess of £10 million then there will probably be others who will do the same. If that does happen I can see Celtic accepting an offer and then it will be down to the player to decide if he wants to double his wages and face a relegation battle or stay and play regular football in the SPL and Europe.
