HEARTS FANS FEAR THE DOCTOR PEPPER MOMENT

July 21st 2008

I was talking to some Hearts fans at the weekend and they are worried, really really worried about what may become of their club.

They all admitted that they were in favour of the Romanov takeover at the time and that things looked to be going great when George Burley had the team flying high at the top of the league.

Even after losing Burley they were still happy with a second place finish in the SPL and entry to the Champions League qualifiers that came with it.

It's a different story now though, they are unsure exactly what it is that Romanov is really up to and are fearing the worst.

I pointed out that it may not be all doom and gloom because even if it did come to Heart of Midlothian going down the pan it doesn't necessarily mean the end.

Gretna FC as we all know went out of existence at the end of last season but almost as soon as they went down the pan they were back again as Gretna 2008 FC.

They applied successfully for a place in the East of Scotland League, a place ironically vacated by Annan Athletic who were awarded a SFL spot.

So if it came to the worst the Jambos could always reform by sticking a year on the end of their name and join the East of Scotland.

Like Gretna, they would have to start in the first division which is the lower of the two divisions but on the bright side the fans would get some cracking local derbies with Craigroyston, Edinburgh Athletic, Tynecastle FC and the big one against Civil Service Strollers.
