BETTY DELIVERS A SWIFT BOOT TO THE NETHER REGIONS BUT COULD THERE BE ONE WAITING FOR US?

August 12th 2008

August 12th is known in the grouse shooting world as The Glorious Twelfth but not many bluenoses will be thinking there is anything glorious about today.

While Rangers fans jam the phone-ins Celtic fans are loving the fact that the man dubbed Ugly Betty will complete his move to Aston Villa today subject to a medical.

There is no doubt that Carlos Cuellar is the man who held Rangers together last season and without him they may well have ended up with nothing at all.

This latest blow, coming hard on the heels of a European exit must be really hard to take for the Ibrox faithful (ho ho ho) but with more than two weeks of the transfer window still to go I am rather concerned that a similar sudden move for our very own Artur Boruc could still materialise.

Apart from your rich boys like Chelsea, Real Madrid, Man United, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Arsenal and AC Milan the rest of the world's football clubs are selling clubs and that includes Celtic so if the right offer came in from the right club then there is no doubt whatsoever that Boruc would be off.

The same would apply to any of the Celtic players but I would only be concerned about losing Boruc, McGeady or Nakamura at this late stage of the transfer window.

I find it hard to believe that there are no clubs interested in buying The Holy Goalie who is now one of the best in the world.

A swoop for big Artur now would be worse for us than the Huns losing Cuellar but I have no doubts that he would still be sold, there may even be a clause in his contract allowing him to go which was the case with Cuellar.

What worries me is that we all know that Artur is a better 'keeper than any of those rich boys have - possibly apart from Chelsea and Real Madrid and if we know that then they know it too.
