MISSING STAN PETROV
Dundee Utd 1 Celtic 1 (17th August 2008) August 18th 2008 Celtic looked slightly better than they did last week against St Mirren but their opponents showed a massive improvement on their previous game at Hamilton and in the end the Celts were probably happy to get away with a point. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Scott McDonald both missed chances which would probably have sealed all three points but the home side had chances of their own and Artur Boruc was a busy man in the Celtic goal. Paul Hartley scored the Celtic goal after a rare breenge forward from his deep position in the midfield. Hartley and Brown don't get forward nearly enough though it's something you'd expect more of from Brown rather than Hartley but maybe we were just spoiled in that area in the past with Stan Petrov. Brown is certainly not getting into the opposition box as much as he did in his Hibs days but at least we know that he is capable of doing it so hopefully we will see more of it sooner rather than later. United were denied a penalty when Gary Caldwell slid into Roy O'Donovan without getting anywhere near the ball, I thought right away it was a penalty and seeing the replay later only confirmed it. There was another case for a United penalty when Vennegoor of Hesselink had his arms round Lee Wilkie to prevent him from jumping. There were a few handball shouts but only from that idiot Scott Booth who obviously doesn't know the difference between a deliberate handball and an accidental one. All in all a draw was about as much as Celtic deserved from this match.
