TOP OF THE MILK

October 30th 2008

Celtic cruised into the League Cup semi-final last night despite Killie's attempts to win by foul means rather than fair.

Kilmarnock employed rough-house tactics to try to thwart the danger from Celtic's ball players but the cream always rises to the top and the men who were the main targets of the dirrrty tactics, Nakamura and McGeady, both punished their opponents by hitting the back of the net with style.

Scott McDonald opened the scoring with a header from a Shaun Maloney corner and Shunsuke Nakamura added a second with a fantastic free-kick from the same spot where I have seem him do it at least twice before at Rugby Park.

Naka, who was laughably given a yellow card for complaining about the number of times he had been fouled was replaced at half-time by Paul Hartley and Celtic didn't look nearly as dangerous in the second half.

It was no real surprise when the home side pulled a goal back early in the half and for a spell the Celts were hemmed in.

Aiden McGeady was always a threat however and he was the man who finished off a fine move to net Celtic's third and clinch a semi-final spot.

Captain for the night Gary Caldwell had a fine game at the back and there were good performances from Brown, Hinkel, McDonald, McGeady and Nakamura.
