CELTS CRUISE TO
COMFORTABLE 2-0 VICTORY OVER HEARTS
November 2nd 2008 The Celts stunned the Cousins of William after only seven minutes when Shaun Maloney fired a controlled shot into the net from thirty yards after the ball had been punched clear by the Hearts 'keeper. It was a truly fantastic strike, not one of those hit and hope jobs but a perfectly executed piece of genius from the wee number thirteen. Gary Caldwell extended Celtic's lead on nineteen minutes when he scrambled home a Paul Hartley corner amid claims of handball. The Hoops dominated the first half without actually creating too many clear cut chances but just on the stroke of half-time Paul Hartley threaded a pass through for the now super-confident Caldwell whose shot crept just wide of the post. Five minutes into the second half, Scott McDonald was hauled down, a penalty awarded and the Jam Tarts defender sent off but Celtic's penalty kick curse continued when Paul Hartley fired the spot-kick wide of the post. It looked as though the foul was actually just outside the box in any case but it's slightly worrying the number penalties missed by Celtic this season. The impressive Maloney was replaced by McGeady on sixty-six minutes and Donati came on for Robson ten minutes later but the Bhoys looked content to see the game out at 2-0. Paddy McCourt was a last minute substitute for the Celts, replacing Scott McDonald. All-in-all a comfortable victory for the SPL Champions who are now back at the top of the league table.
