BRAVERY AND COURAGE ON DISPLAY AT IBROX

November 16th 2008

"We were brave and we showed a lot of courage in the second half" was how St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson described his players after yesterday's 2-1 defeat at Ibrox.

'Brave' is how you might describe the guy who jumped into the swollen river to save the drowning girl in the recent floods or the man who was on fire himself but was still pulling people from the flames in the Bradford fire disaster.

As for courage, take a trip to the Sick Children's Hospital and you will see courage.

Footballers who are simply taking part in a game are not brave Gus, they were merely doing their job a bit better by not playing as badly in the second half as they had done in the first.

To be fair to Gus he is not alone in using those terms, I've heard many others use them including Gordon Strachan.

'We showed a lot of character' is another line that managers and players use during interviews, what the hell are they on about? They actually mean that they kept on doing what they get paid to do and were fortunate to come back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

Let's hope the Celts keep on doing what they get paid to do when they travel to Hamilton today, they have been going well but as always it's the next game that counts not the last one.

The only danger today is complacency but I can't see Gordon Strachan allowing that to happen.

The midfield is an area where Celtic have players in abundance and Strachan has not been shy when it comes to using most of them at some point.

Barry Robson and Paul Hartley are players who come in for specific games and Massimo Donati was a surprise starter on Wednesday against Kilmarnock so who knows how today's midfield will line up.

Scott Brown and Shaun Maloney are almost certain starters but the other two places are up for grabs.

McDonald and Sheridan will probably be the strikers with Samaras coming on if the game is won with time to spare.

Can Skoosh Broon score the first goal? Coral is offering 14/1 while others only go 9/1.

Cillian Sheridan is a best priced 11/2 with Bet365 to hit the first goal and McDonald 4/1 with Coral.

4/1 is on offer at Betfair for five or more goals in the match and 7/4 is what is available for four or more goals.

Celtic to win 5-0 is 25/1 with Skybet.
