ONE LAST TIME
November 22nd 2008 Celtic take on St Mirren at Love Street (or St Mirren Park to give it the proper title) for the last time in today's early kick-off. I haven't been there since 1986 on the day we had to win by about five goals and depend on Dundee beating Hearts for us to take the title. I set off that day believing the Bhoys would win the title. Hearts had been on an amazing unbeaten run but no one was mentioning the fact that we had won something like thirteen games in a row going into this match, all the talk was about Hearts. Edinburgh bookies Morrisons were offering 8/1 against the Celts taking the title that day and I had some of that.
I was in the stand that day and the guy sitting beside me got up and left with about fifteen minutes to go and I remember thinking where the **** are you going you fool, well I bet he regrets that move now as he missed out on a bit of history. Not long after that Love Street went mental when the news of a goal at Dens came through the trannies. A second goal was the icing on the cake and I remember Tommy Burns coming over to the touchline after hearing the roar to ask what was happening at Dens and he could barely contain himself when he was told it was now 2-0. Announcements for the fans to stay off the park at the end fell on deaf ears as the players were mobbed. They eventually escaped up the tunnel and were not allowed to return until the pitch was cleared which was some fifteen minutes later. I remember that many of the St Mirren fans stayed to watch the celebrations and applauded the Celtic players as they did a lap of honour. That was my greatest memory of Love Street and nothing that happens today will match that, however I will be happy with three points considering the Bhoys current injury situation. In last week's win over Hamilton I felt Maloney was wasted playing as a striker, we missed his creativity on the left so I hope someone else is fit enough to partner Sheridan up front today. I feel this could be another tough and scrappy game and that Celtic are not value at 1/3 to win this. A 1-0 win would do me and that score is on offer at 13/2. Sheridan to score first and Celts to win 1-0 is 37/1.
