ARTUR HAS A REGGI AND GAZ
THINKS HE'S WATTY
December 8th 2008 Celtic never really looked like they were going to break down Hibs yesterday as they stumbled to their first SPL defeat in thirteen games. The Bhoys had more possession by far and won the corner count by twelve to two but the only thing that counts is goals and the Hibees had two of them to Celtic's none. The home side actually had six shots on target to Celtic's two according to Setanta's match stats. It used to be a bit of a joke among the Celtic players when Reggi Blinker was at the club that if someone had a Reggi it meant they had a bad game so I'm wondering if Artur Boruc has Reggis or does he simply have Arturs? It was certainly another major blunder by the Holy Goalie yesterday when he let a fifty yard shot slip by him but what do you do when he's the best goalie Celtic has had for many a year? Legendary Liverpool 'keeper Bruce Grobbelaar was prone to the very same mistakes that Boruc makes but it was something that the Anfield club were prepared to put up with because he was simply so good otherwise. Ironically, the Hibs goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay who has had so many 'Artur' moments of his own never put a foot wrong yesterday and his handling was superb throughout the ninety minutes. Hibs defended in much the same way as the Celts did against Manchester United recently and their fans must be wondering why their team cannot put in that kind of shift on a regular basis. The Bhoys lacked a bit of imagination which you would expect when Nakamura is out of the side. Maloney tried hard to create but you have to say that Hibs defended really well on the day. We used to have a player in our amateur team who was dubbed World Cup Watty because of his desire to produce the World Cup pass rather than keep it simple and Gary 'Beckenbauer' Caldwell reminded me of him yesterday with his 90 yard cross-field passes to Skippy down at the corner flag. I am not a fan of Caldwell playing in the World Cup Watty role and had he been in his usual position at the back the second goal may have been avoided. Celtic's recent performances have indicated that they have been heading towards a result like yesterday's so hopefully that is the boot up the arse they need to get their finger out.
