CRAIG NOT THE MAN FOR CELTIC

December 13th 2008

Once again Craig Bellamy has been linked with a transfer window move to The Famous Glasgow Celtic just as he has been in every transfer window since he left, this time the fee mentioned is £5m.

There is no doubt Bellamy is a good player but for starters Celtic can't afford to throw away £5m on a player who spends as much time on the treatment table as he does on the park, we already have one of those in Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

When he left Celtic he was on around £50,000 a week so I can't see him being willing to take a huge wage cut when he wouldn't take one last time.

There is also the question of where he would fit in, he is not an out-and-out goalscorer though with his pace he would be ideal as a lone striker away from home in Europe but you can't buy a player for three games a season.

He would be expecting to start whenever he was fit and wouldn't be hanging around long if he wasn't in the team.

A quality replacement will be required for Nakamura when he goes but Bellamy is not that man.

Naka has been told by Celtic that he can't go in January, no deal has fallen through with any Japanese club, they have simply been informed that the player is vital to the Bhoys' hopes of retaining the SPL title.

I'm told that Mrs Naka absolutely hates it here so whether the situation will change by the end of January who knows but there would be outrage if the Japanese star was sold and the Celts lost the title and even if a quality replacement was brought in next month the finger of blame would be pointed at Gordon Strachan.

Today the Cousins of William visit Celtic Park and it could turn out to be a tricky match for the Celts as Hearts have won all their games since Celtic's 2-0 win at Tynecastle last month. The Hoops are a best priced 4/9 to win the match.

Shaun Maloney scored the first goal against Villarreal on Wednesday and has now managed to score the first goal on five occasions this season. At an average of 8/1 you'd be well ahead if you'd backed him in every start.

Today, Maloney is 7/1 to score first, Samaras is 9/2, McDonald 4/1, Sheridan 11/2, Nakamura 8/1, McGeady 9/1, Robson 12/1 and Scott Brown 14/1.

Celtic to win 2-1 is 8/1 and 2-0 is 6/1.

Dundee United are 4/1 to do the Celts a turn and beat Rangers in the early kick-off at Tannadice or if you just fancy Rangers to not win you can lay them at 4/5 on Betfair.

For those not up on back and lay betting, laying Rangers for say £10 means that if they did not win, you win £10 and if Rangers do win you lose £8. So a defeat or a draw for Rangers and you win, in fact we all do :o)
