CELTS WILL BLOW IT
February 16th 2009 Celtic 0 Rangers 0 I expected both managers to settle for a point and that's how it turned out yesterday but the most concerning thing was Celtic's lack of imagination throughout the game. Walter Smith reverted to the tactics which served him well last season and the Celts were restricted to one chance in the first-half. After the interval Rangers stepped up the pace while Celtic offered absolutely nothing at all in an attacking sense and in the end it was Artur Boruc who won a point for Celtic. The result keeps the Celts two points ahead at the top of the SPL but the warning signs are there that a fourth consecutive title is not a foregone conclusion. Celtic's front men in particular were woeful and that didn't change at all when Vennegoor of Hesselink was replaced by Samaras who simply doesn't look the same player that started the season. Since beating Rangers at Ibrox in December Celtic have now played five SPL games and won only once and there were two unconvincing Scottish Cup wins over Dundee and Queens Park as well as a penalty shoot-out victory in the League Cup. Nine points dropped in the last five SPL games is not title form and a continuation of that, even for one more game could see the end of our hopes. I fear that Celtic will blow it and their failure to sign a decent striker in January whilst letting another go out on loan will be the reason.
