CELTS WON'T WIN SAY THE
THREE AMIGOS
March 14th 2009 I was listening to Sportsound last night and when asked by Dougie Vipond what the outcome of the Old Firm League Cup Final would be Jim Spence, Billy Boy Dodds and ex Celtic fan Pat Nevin all predicted a Rangers win. By the way, where does wee Pat get the "I'm a Hibs fan" bit from? He lives down the street from me and has told me personally in the past that he's a Celtic fan, making no secret of the fact but we all knew that already anyway. That was in his Motherwell CE days though and obviously he's been advised to go down the Hibs fan route now that he's a pundit, get yourself an Easter Road season ticket to make it more authentic Pat they would have told him. The thing is he tends to overdo the Hibee thing with continual references to it. Anyway, back to the point in hand and the Three Amigos all going for a Rangers win, they could well be right as I think the result could go either way with penalties a strong possibility. The two teams are as poor as each other and it will probably come down to which manager can come up with the most cunning plan. Rangers are supposedly to be managed by McCoist tomorrow but I think we will see the Walter Smith 4-5-1 from them while the genius that is Gordon Strachan will have to come up with something to get the better of that. He could try inserting a wasp or two in the underpants of Georgios Samaras but the aforementioned Spence and Nevin both think that Strachan will go with McGeady and McDonald up front while Billy Boy Dodds thinks not. What makes Nevin and Spence think that I've no idea but I very much doubt whether he would try something like that, Gordon didn't get to where he is today by using the element of surprise - that's for lesser men like Jose Mourinho and Alex Ferguson. Where to get rich: Coral offer 7/4 Celtic to win in 90mins and Paddy Power goes 4/5 The Bhoys to lift the trophy. First scorer odds are 6/1 Skippy, 8/1 Samaras, 8/1 JVoH, 10/1 Hutchinson, 12/1 Naka, 16/1 McGeady, 18/1 Scott Brown, 25/1 Hartley and Crosas, 33/1 McManus, 40/1 Caldwell, 50/1 O'Dea, 66/1 Hinkel. Correct score, Celtic 1-0 is 7/1, 2-0 is 12/1, 3-0 is 33/1, 4-0 is 100/1, 5-0 is 425/1 (Paddy Power only - others go 150/1 or less), 2-1 is 11/1, 3-1 is 28/1, 3-2 is 50/1, 4-2 is 125/1. Paddy Power offer odds to be sent off: 20/1 Weir, 20/1 Ferguson, 20/1 Novo (is he fit?), 20/1 McCulloch, 22/1 Lafferty, 22/1 Davis. First player to be yellow carded, Scott Brown 12/1 (Hills), McManus 14/1 (Paddy Power), Caldwell 14/1, McGeady 22/1, JVoH 33/1 (all Hills). McCulloch 16/1 (Hills), Broadfoot 12/1 (Paddy Power), Weir 16/1 (Paddy Power), Papac 14/1 (Paddy Power), Ferguson 16/1 (Skybet), Novo 20/1 (Totesport). Celts to win after extra time 12/1, to win on penalties 8/1.
