DAZ WASHES AWAY THE BLUES

March 16th 2009

Celtic 2 Rangers 0 (AET)

Celtic's best (and some would say only) football playing defender Darren Dazza O'Dea was the man who ultimately won the cup for The Bhoys yesterday with a perfect header from a Nakamura cross in the first minute of extra-time.

O'Dea had been disappointed that he wasn't allowed to go out on loan in January but now he'll be delighted about that.

It was another poor Old Firm encounter, at least for ninety minutes even though Celtic looked the better of the two teams.

Once Daz had headed the Celts in front it looked as if it would be a matter of how many we would win by but chances were missed on a regular basis throughout the extra-time most notably by McDonald and Samaras.

With only a one goal lead anything can happen but The Bhoys were never really troubled after going ahead as Rangers looked as though they had run out of steam.

In stoppage time of extra-time Aiden McGeady who had tormented the Rangers defence for over two hours took off down the wing and was bearing down on goal when the hapless Kirk Broadfoot brought him down with a red card tackle.

Broadfoot got his marching orders and McGeady converted the resultant penalty himself to seal the win.

There were some good performances, most notably from McGeady, Brown, Loovens (his best Celtic game by far), O'Dea and Nakamura.

Celtic played some decent stuff in extra-time keeping the ball well and playing short accurate passes which is something that has been lacking recently so let's hope they can carry that on in the remaining SPL games and deliver four in a row.
