PLEASE TAKE THIS £20M,
YOU NEED IT MORE THAN WE DO
January 28th 2010 This is the last year possibly ever (if the current trend continues) that a Scottish club will get straight into the Champions League group stages - yes I know it's not a certainty this year either but it is highly likely. Celtic are a charitable club but to hand Rangers a £10m gift two years running is just taking things a little too far don't you think? We were one January signing away from winning the title last season, a man who could put the ball in the net (Fletcher) would have won the title for Celtic but they wouldn't push the boat out so missed out on the £10m Champions League dosh and four-in-a-row. I know Tony Mowbray wants his own players in but what was wrong with keeping the first pick players who went close last season, adding a couple of new faces, perhaps another two or three in January and in the summer of 2010 dispose of those who are not required and add a few more when there's a guaranteed £10m coming in after lifting the SPL trophy? Our defence was never great under Gordon Strachan but Mowbray has chopped and changed all season and we now have a situation where a lad who was considered not good enough and was loaned out to Reading is now captaining Celtic! Mowbray has also messed about with the strikeforce and that has cost us too. Skippy may not be the greatest player on earth but he is the one who is a proven goalscorer. Samaras does a lot of good things but suffers from SYBS (Six Yard Box Syndrome). Anyone who has ever suffered from this affliction will know that if you are inside the six yard box the goalposts suddenly disappear. With the recent sale of Barry Robson, our best player bar McGeady, it makes me wonder where we are actually going now. Is Peter Lawwell a Director of Football at Celtic these days and Mowbray has to work with the players he is given? What is certain is that each season the quality is being diluted but the ticket prices are not so why not just go the whole hog Peter and cash in on McGeady and Boruc now that this campaign is all but over.
